Preparations for Forest School

Our Forest School was a hive of activity last year and preparations have been taking place over the last few weeks to get it ready for another year of fun.
We asked Park Road Community Primary School’s Forest School Leader Mrs Preston to tell us more about what is in store for this term.
Well, summer is drawing to an end and autumn is saying hello! The leaves have started to fall in our forest school area, the squirrels are out collecting acorns, the trees have started to change colour, and we can't wait to start back at Forest School!
Autumn always allows lots of fun opportunities in Forest School, for example playing in leaf piles, learning about hedgehogs, autumn crafts, and generally watching the seasons change.
Each year group will enjoy forest school sessions during the school year, allowing every child to develop a lifelong relationship between them and the natural world. It's an approach that prioritises outdoor learning, hands on exploration, managed risk taking and a connection to nature, whilst building resilience and self-esteem.
We hold whole school events in Forest School, in which every year group is involved. Last year’s Christmas Forest School Extravaganza was a huge success and the children enjoyed creating a Christmas craft, as well as staying cozy round the campfire toasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate around a campfire!
We are already busy planning this year's event. We can’t wait to get started!
