Year 4 pupils Park Road Community Primary School enjoyed an unforgettable trip to Cuerden Valley, exploring the River Lostock as part of their rivers topic, which connects to their key question, "Where do puddles go?"

The day began with a lively duck race, where pupils calculated the speed of the river while cheering for their rubber ducks as they floated downstream. Following the race, the class participated in kick sampling to investigate the river's ecosystem. They were delighted to discover mayfly nymphs, indicating the River Lostock's high water quality.

Teacher Miss Katy Cunliffe said: "As the pupils ventured along the riverbank, many ended up with soggy socks and wellies, but the laughter and enjoyment made it all worthwhile."

In the afternoon, pupils put their creativity to the test by building small rafts from natural materials. They then raced their handmade rafts down the river, learning about water flow in a fun and engaging way.

The trip provided an excellent opportunity for hands-on learning, and the Year 4 pupils look forward to more adventures ahead!
