Celebrating Languages

Pupils at Park Road Community Primary School celebrated European Day of Languages with activities exploring French and other European languages.
The event aimed to raise awareness of the wide variety of languages spoken across Europe and to help pupils appreciate the importance of communication and cultural understanding.
In Key Stage 1, children focused on French. They learned words for different colours and used their new vocabulary to create colourful rainbow pictures. To complete the experience, pupils also enjoyed tasting French snacks, adding a flavour of French culture to the classroom.
Key Stage 2 pupils took a broader look at European languages. They explored how to say “hello” in several different languages, from French and Spanish to German and Italian. The sessions encouraged pupils to think about similarities and differences between languages and to practise speaking new words with confidence.
The day was an opportunity for pupils to develop curiosity about languages and cultures beyond their own. Park Road regularly includes French sessions as part of its curriculum, and events like this help to bring the subject to life.
European Day of Languages, which is marked each year on September 26, was established by the Council of Europe to promote language learning and cultural diversity. Park Road Community Primary School joined thousands of schools across the continent in celebrating the occasion.
