The new school year has got off to a green-fingered start at Park Road Community Primary School, where the popular Gardening Club is already reaping the rewards of its hard work.

Children from across the school have been busy harvesting crops grown in their very own grounds, with home-grown potatoes proving to be the first big success of the season. Pupils were able to take some of their harvest home to share with their families!

And the work doesn’t stop there. Over the next few weeks, the school gardeners will be turning their attention to a colourful autumn harvest, with pumpkins, raspberries and chard all nearly ready to be picked. The bumper crop is the result of weeks of teamwork, learning and care from pupils who have dedicated their free time to tending the garden.

The club has also been giving attention to the school’s much-loved sensory garden, an area designed to provide a calming and stimulating space for children. Young gardeners rolled up their sleeves to weed the beds and then worked together to plant a selection of autumn and winter plants, ensuring the garden remains a vibrant and welcoming space throughout the colder months.

The club not only teaches children valuable skills about planting and growing, but also encourages teamwork, responsibility and pride in their environment.

As the season unfolds, Park Road pupils are looking forward to sharing more of their harvest with friends and families.
